One bed self contained annexe and re-build of walls

This project involved the creation of a one bedroom self contained annexe and the re-build of walls of the former stable yard at the Black Dog B&B in Uplyme.

The existing stone walls bordering Lyme Road had arguably reached the end of their useful life were starting to come apart. Our client felt the stone wall around their yard was a very strong feature in the local area and wanted to rebuild it while at the same time construct a single-storey self-contained annexe on the site of the former yard.

The walls were taken down and reconstructed with reinforced concrete foundations and retaining walls to support the highway with an external facing of site salvaged stone to their existing heights all round.

With the exception of glimpses of the roof window, the annexe is largely concealed from Lyme Road by the parapet walls.

Facing Haye Lane the elevations are of fine sawn vertical oak boards with grey powder coated aluminium windows and doors.

The project involved a variety of trades including groundworks, brickwork, electrical installation, plumbing, underfloor heating installation, plastering, roofing and painting and decorating.

Completion: October 2020
